Common questions.
Short answers about how this works, who's behind it, and where the numbers come from.
Is this free?
Yes. No paywall, no email gate to see your quote, no upsell. The calculator is funded by AI compute we pay for ourselves; if it gets expensive at scale we'll add gentle rate limits, never gates.
Do I need to sign up?
No. You can use the calculator, see the full breakdown, see the formula with your numbers in it, and copy a shareable URL — all without ever entering an email.
Why not gate the breakdown like the original Webflow calculator did?
Because the math is the value. Hiding it behind email capture turns a useful tool into a sales funnel. We'd rather earn your attention with transparency.
Where do these rates come from?
2026 independent freelance rates for custom-design web work in North America. We benchmarked against active Webflow / Framer / Next.js professionals at each tier (Apprentice, Mid, Senior, Studio, Boutique). The hourly rate is editable — pick what's right for your market.
Is this Webflow-only?
The math applies to any custom-design web project — Webflow, Framer, Next.js, hand-rolled. We named it for Webflow because that's where the original calculator (2022) came from.
Why does Texas show ~28% income tax when Texas has no income tax?
That number is federal + self-employment combined, not state. Even in zero-state-tax jurisdictions, freelancers owe ~22% federal effective + ~12% net SE tax at six-figure income. We label this 'all-in tax set-aside' in the panel.
Can I use this to send a quote to a client?
Yes. Generate the quote, click Save, and you'll get a short URL with a clean read-only client view (no take-home math, no edit links). Share that URL anywhere.
I'm an agency pricing my own site, not client work — does this apply?
Mostly yes. Experience tier, scope, fees, and timeline all work the same. The 'Take-home' panel at the bottom is freelancer-specific (federal + SE + state income tax math) — agencies billing through a company can ignore it. We collapse it by default.
Who built this?
Marcus Francis at Octane House, a Webflow Premium Certified Partner. Inspired by the 2022 original from another community member; rebuilt from scratch with 2026 rates, AI-powered scope inference from a URL or brief, and the breakdown ungated.
Is the data I enter private?
Inputs you type in the calculator stay in your browser unless you explicitly save the quote, paste a URL for AI analysis, or upload a brief. We log anonymous events (step transitions, totals) for product improvement. Full details on the privacy page.
Is there a newsletter?
Not yet. If we add one we'll make it opt-in only, on the results page, and never required for anything.
How do I get in touch?
Email hello@octane.house for project inquiries, or webflowcalculator@gmail.com for calculator-specific questions and privacy requests.
